“WE ARE SUPER EXCITED TO HAVE WAKANDACON TEAM AS A PARTICIPANT 8:15 PM – 8:25 PM ON JULY 19TH”
Wakandacon is a fan-created, fan-driven celebration of Afro-Futurism, technology, and Black heroes in pop culture and the real world. It is our dream to create an inclusive space where Black people can be a nerd about anything – pop culture, gaming, tech, womanhood, politics, and our own beautiful Blackness! A space to come together and celebrate everything that makes us nerds.
The three-day event is organized by a team of African-American creatives: siblings David, Ali, and Matt Barthwell; along with producers Lisa Beasley and Taylor Witten. We are a small, independent team creating a grassroots cultural experience and movement.
Inspired by recent media and films, our team was moved to do more. The moment we saw Wakanda in film, we wanted a space to gather and talk about everything African-Americans are passionate about. Afro-Futurism is about imagining a future for Black people all around the world. Wakandacon is a space for Black people to look past the present and into the future. The event will feature guest speakers, panels, lectures, workshops, and a marketplace dedicated to support and promote minority-owned businesses. The first annual Wakandacon will take place on August 3-5, 2018 at the Hilton Chicago (720 S. Michigan Ave, Chicago, IL 60605).
Glappitnova unites different types of people and perspectives into a space sharing what matters most. In return, we all grow getting exposed to new things, insights, and much more. The Chicago space is a swanky massive warehouse off an alley with multiple rooms of activity. There is a mixture of storytelling, performances, panels, art exhibitions and good people. Each day has different programming and we recommend you get an accessible VIP ticket for hidden surprises and new year-long program launches. Tickets will not be sold at the door and this is a private 21 an older event. You can view our FAQs at https://www.glappitnova.com/faq/.
