Juan Pablo Romero is the Executive Director and Founder of “Los Patojos, Dreams and ideas in Action” Association. Has been a 2014 CNN Heroes Nominee and TEDx Speaker.
Juan Pablo created an institution to give hope and dignify children and teenagers of Jocotenango, Sacatepéquez, Guatemala. Los Patojos, since it’s establishment 8 years ago, has promoted the art and dialog as tools to understand our contexts. Together the children and staff work together daily to write new stories, trying to find and regain happiness, dignity, trust and love.
Despite violence, unplanned pregnancies, and use of drugs are common in the youth of the country their alternative educational method fosters critical thinking and has given other options to the people who participate in their project. Those who have dared to see and do things differently and to show them to others as well.
Los Patojos is a space where young people no matter their difficulties or family problems, can live, enjoy and actively participate on the transformation of their surroundings. The project involves a school dining hall, medical assitance center, musical space, cultural action institute, a place of trust, friendship and a revolutionary way to love and educate.
