You hear it time and time again, follow your passions and you will more than likely be successful. But has anyone really stopped to ask why that is? Why is it that you are more likely to be successful by following your passions?

A lot of people take that advice at face value; that for the mere fact that you are passionate about something, if you ‘pursue’ that passion, you will be successful or success will eventually be bestowed upon you. I don’t believe the message of only following your passion alone will result in success and that a vast majority of people are overlooking the true meaning of what is being said.

“The underlying message that is overlooked is that you are more likely to be successful if you follow a passion of yours because you are more likely to tune out all the naysayers, battle through the tough times, always be optimistic about what it is you are doing and put in countless hours not knowing if it will eventually payoff.”

If you are not passionate about what you are doing, when the times get tough, everyone is telling you that it won’t work and you can’t see the light at the end of the tunnel, the probability of you being pessimistic of the outcome is higher. You are much more likely to give it up, throw in the towel early and you won’t be willing to do what it takes to make it a success. This is why it is important that you follow your passions in life.

When you are pursuing a passion, it is not the mere passion alone that will make you successful but your passion will be the driving force that gets you to persevere and overcome all the obstacles that stand in your way. It takes hard work, long hours, perseverance and persistence to reach success. Passion alone will not get you there.

“Don’t follow your passion, live it.”
