From SoFar Sounds To AIGA To Silent Discos in Warehouses

Here are a few of our +40 Chicago participants spanning different industries. Glappitnova is known shops talks with panels and performances, but we’re adding on-site mentorship to help you get on your way as well. Check out some of our participants for Glappitnova Chicago that will be held July 13th and July 14th. Your ticket gets you into all of the rooms with various activities and activities range from storytelling, panel discussions, live performances, on-site mentorship, the party, and more. Shannon Waldron

On-site Mentor

Shannon is the CEO at  Urban Fêtes which is as a platform redefining lifestyle and setting the tone for Chicago millennials. He envisioned events that would not only attract accomplished, forward-thinking professionals, but elevate mundane nightlife by infusing it with leading brands and progressive businesses that cater to the needs and taste of these elite crowds. Most recently, Mr. Waldron launched a series of “Silent Parties” held in multiple cities around the world (events where people dance to music listened to on wireless headphone) and has maintained a monthly concert series to highlight local talent.  

The Urban Fêtes team has also hosted both a panel of top music industry professionals and an emerging artists showcase, at this nation’s most prominent film and music festival,  South by Southwest (SXSW) in Austin, TX and Atlanta’s Music Festival and Conference (A3C).

 

Antonio Garcia

Panelist: Building Diverse Communities 

Antonio García is AIGA Chicago’s new VP of Diversity & Inclusion. Over the last year and half he helped launch Northern Lab, Northern Trust’s internal innovation accelerator focused on experience design within financial services. Before that he led gravitytank’s interaction design discipline and social innovation practice. Prior to working in innovation, Antonio was strategic director of Firebelly Design. He holds a BFA in Advertising Design from the Atlanta College of Art (now SCAD) and attended the Harvard Business School AIGA Business Perspectives for Creative Leaders Executive Education Program in 2007. Antonio teaches Visual Storytelling and Communication Design at Northwestern University’s Segal Design Institute and previously taught Customer Discovery as part of University of Chicago’s Polsky Center Entrepreneurship Essentials. A frequent contributor to community conversations on the topics of diversity, culture and creativity, Antonio believes design’s sole function is to create change.

 

Matt Brooks

On-site Mentor

Matt Brooks is a veg-head, son of a dead head, grown in the Western burbs of Chicago. He’s a curator passionate about presenting diverse art forms, particularly to the ears of those who may have never considered consuming it. Using his degrees in Music Business, PR/Advertising, and Spanish from Butler University, Matt currently leads the charge of Sofar Sounds in Chicago, a company that brings the magic back to live music in over 350 cities worldwide. Outside of work, he just may be found creating music himself, or on a scuba diving trip.
