Didn’t think singing was cool coming from an athletic background, became fluent in Spanish from traveling to pursue his passion for music, began a huge singing fan base on youtube and auditioning for this season of NBC’s The Voice. What happens now?
What makes Michael so unique is that his career has been shaped by experiences outside of music. Starting at the age of fourteen, Michael began working on a landscaping crew where his co-workers started teaching him Spanish and introduced him to Latin music. He immediately fell in love with the language, but also the sounds and rhythms of the different Latin musical genres he had never before been exposed to.
Building on his two biggest passions, Michael went on to study Music and Spanish at the University of Iowa. This is where Michael found a new level of success in music when he began performing at different competitions and also singing in a gospel choir. During his time in college, Michael studied in Guanajuato, Mexico and Seville, Spain to continue to learn about the Spanish language and culture.
Michael has gone on to write songs in both English and Spanish and has lived in Mexico City and Miami where he continued performing in both languages. “I see music as a language that everybody speaks and understands,” says Michael. “Music moves people in deep and profound ways.”
Michael blends his unique Latin, pop style in a way that keeps his fans wanting more. Michael’s determination and past experiences have made him ready to take his success to the next level.
