Guatemalan Chef Turns Dirt Track Into Fine Dinning Utopia

We are extremely excited to have the hilarious Ricardo Zachrison as a participant at Glapitnova’s “Exhibit” showcase in Guatemala July 7th.

Ricardo is the Founder and Co-Owner of Ricks Burgers, Luka and La Pista, and knew he wanted to be a chef since the age of 14. It took a while to convince his parents when he told them he wanted to pursue this as a career. After an intense internship in a local restaurant they understood his passion and let him go after his dream.

How does a dirt track become one of the best fine dining restaurants in Guatemala?

After 9 years of studying and working in the United States at large restaurants and the Ritz-Carlton, Ricardo came back home and noticed people on brother’s dirt track playing and eating. Ricardo bought a small grill and started grilling burgers for the people at the track and turned it into a business.

Ricardo couldn’t handle all people by himself and soon had to hire Juanito to help him make french fries and serve burgers in tiny baskets. Right next to the track was an old abandoned wooden cabin which was great for relaxing and gathering a crowd. So Rick focused on being the chef, his brother was the waiter and his cousin was the bartender. The rest is history.

Rick is a spontaneous person including the times when he’s cooking and mixing the more than 1700 ingredients to create his masterpieces. He’s also one of the funniest guys we’ve met, who’ll surely make you laugh don’t miss his talk this July 7th, 2016.
